The 2021 season is almost here at last and I think everyone involved in cricket will echo this sentiment when we say we’re VERY excited to see its return!

Firstly, we’d like to thank everyone who’s been involved in the many (many!) hours of preparations either to get the ground match-ready or those who’ve worked behind the scenes to provide us with a superb, COVID-secure environment for a safe return to cricket.

Given the recent release of the updated Government/ECB guidelines, your enthusiasm, dedication and determination to work together to make things happen has been impressive and without you there’d be no cricket – THANK YOU!

Please find below some helpful information for players, spectators, parents and club members which relate specifically to match days, training and cricket in general.

Information for our social members relating to our opening date, function room hire and food/catering can be found in this article instead.

SPECTATORS

Spectators enjoying a 1st XI fixture at St Annes CC

No spectators are permitted until hospitality is available (subject to confirmation)

Unfortunately, spectators are not permitted in any outdoor or indoor sport facility at Step 2 (from 12th April) of the Government’s roadmap and no spectators are allowed on the ground until we’re open for hospitality after 17th May 2021.

We’re as dissapointed about this as you are – there’s nothing we’d like more than to see you enjoying a social, watching cricket and supporting our teams, but The England & Wales Cricket Board guidelines are really clear. The only exceptions for individuals who can be on the ground during a match are:

  • A parent, suitable adult or carer attending in a supervisory role for an U18 player or a player with a disability (maximum 1 adult per U18 player)
  • Those attending for hospitality where available, subject to following the club’s and the government’s guidance. (Please note, no hospitality will be available at St Annes CC until 19th May 2021)
  • A club official/volunteer who is organising on and/or off-field activities

The supervising adult should always follow the rules on social distancing (2m).

The Government’s guidance clearly states no other spectators should be present. (i.e. if you don’t meet one of the above 3 criteria, you should not be there).

PLAYERS & MATCH DAY SAFETY

We kindly ask all players and officials to please read the 2021 COVID Match Day Safety Measures PDF. The guidance can also be found on our Rules & Policy page.

It’s short and will take no longer than a couple of minutes to read – thank you!  Essentially:

Social distance at all times

Hand sanitize or wash your hands regularly, and

Remain in the players designated zone, i.e. on the Grandstand (unless you’re going to the loo!)

Bring your own food & drinks

Track & trace upon arrival: either check in by scanning the QR code or give your contact details to your team captain for recording in the track & trace file

THOUGHTS FOR THIS SEASON?

Cricket Chariman, Richard Dearden:

“We are all looking forward to the start of the season after lockdown and our reduced 2020 season.

All the players are ready for the start. We’re a young side with a lot of potential talent and we’re looking forward to the challenges of the season to come.”

2nd XI Captain, Paul Wilks:

“As usual, the 2’s will be aiming to combine finishing as high in the league as possible with developing our really promising junior players.

Good luck to all teams in what will hopefully be a full and successful season and a huge thank you in advance to the volunteers, scorers, committee, groundsman, junior coaches and parents of junior players who make cricket possible.

Up the Saints!

3rd XI Captain, Martyn Burnett:

“After a greatly shortened season last year, I’m looking forward to fulfilling a normal set of league fixtures this year.

The usual 3rd team blend of experience and youth will be exciting to captain and I expect us to create a good team spirit and be competitive in our division.”
