It’s time for our teams to take to the field to begin their 2024 campaign for title glory and we can’t wait to join them on their quest. We’re so looking forward to sunshine, a spot of cricket and plenty of chat around the boundary to brighten our weekends!

Senior cricket continues to develop and grow and we’ll see more of our junior players making their senior debuts this year (a testament to the hard work, commitment and success of volunteer Coaches and junior players over the years). They’ll join our more experienced and established players and combined, the future is looking particularly bright – 2024 promises to be an exciting season.

1st XI Captain Nathan Bolus’s Thoughts…

“We have had 3 key players this lured away this season (Tom Higson, Alec McLoughlin and Harry Birkman), including two to teams in the Northern Premier Cricket League, and although we have no new players this season, we’ve a very good corps of young players who are eager to represent their club with pride.

My predictions for league contenders this year are Blackpool, Kendal and Garstang.

Chorley have shown what can be done by having a team of dedicated local lads who are committed to the club and this is something which I admire and hope that we can emulate.

Our success in the Lancashire and National Knock Out’s last season meant that we played a lot of cricket last year and unfortunately, that took its toll on our league results. Even though we finished lower than we wanted to last year, we were often in with a chance of winning a lot of the games that eventually did not go our way.

With another year of experience under our belt for our younger players, I belive that we can swing those games into wins this year and perhaps surprise a few people.”

2024 Junior Teams, Managers & Training Nights…

St Annes CC U13s 2023

St Annes CC U13s 2023

Cricket is a superb sport which enhances children’s lives through participation, forming friendships, learning new skills and having fun and new players are most welcome at St Annes CC.

We have a thriving junior cricket section which has been successful for several years and our juniors have really enjoyed participating in friendlies, league fixtures, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals over the years in addition to attending training to develop their game.

Some junior teams may be full/have limited places available, therefore we ask that you contact us before attending training for the first time, and we will confirm availability and answer any queries you may have.

Our Managers and training days are listed below.  Training times vary between teams (they are usually after 5pm on a weekdays)  – Managers will happily advise the timings of their sessions when you get in touch:

  • U10s:  Manager Matt Dougall – training Monday evenings
  • U11s:  Manager Ali Cutler – training Friday evenings
  • U12s:  Manager Michelle Birkman/Rob Buffham – training Wednesday evenings
  • U13s:  Manager Neil Bradley – training Monday evenings
  • U14s:  Manager Noah McKnight – training Wednesday evenings
  • U15s:  Manager Paul Williams – training Thursday evenings
  • U17s:  Manager Mark Sergeant – training Thursday evenings

Junior Cricket Co-Ordinators Paul William’s Thoughts…

“Our thriving junior section is a massive part of our family club and it puts St Annes CC at the forefront of cricket clubs in Lancashire.

With a junior side in each age group for 2024, it makes our junior selection very busy.

We have players in every senior side which have progressed from our junior teams, which provides them with a pathway into senior cricket,  We have different, dedicated volunteer coaches in each age group to help progress and train our juniors for senior cricket in the future.”

Special Mentions…

Thank you

A big THANK YOU to our Cricket Chairman Russ Bradley and all of our Captains, Coaches, Cricket Committee and volunteers for their superb efforts, many of whom have contributed their time and energy at numerous meetings (amongst other things!) throughout the winter to help us prepare for the 2024 season.

Thanks also to our groundsman Johnny. You will have noticed that April certainly lived up to its name with plenty(!) of April showers which posed challenges with preparing the ground pre-season. Yet despite this, and unlike some other grounds in the county which remain out of action, our ground is fit to play on.

A special mention also goes to some of our Cricket Committee volunteers – Russ Bradley, Neil Bradley, Barty, Martyn Burnett and especially Paul Williams, who’ve put a vast amount of their time into repairing our outdoor nets which really had seen better days.  It has taken a great deal of hard work to repair them and without their dedication and determibation to fix them, we would not have usable nets this season. On behalf of all our senior and junior players – THANK YOU!

We’ve a great team at St Annes CC, working hard both on and off the pitch – thank you to everyone who’s donated their time pre-season.

We wish all our teams an enjoyable and successful season. Go out there, have fun and enjoy the moment.

We look forward to welcoming members, sponsors, families and spectators back to Vernon Road for another exciting season!
